Introduction

Representatives from the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) discuss their investigation into the presence of microplastics in the Arctic Ocean. The research area is particularly sensitive to environmental pollution and pressures due to short food chains, and is a region highly reliant on the health of its fisheries.

NIVA's research is focused around the understanding of microplastic concentration and the sources of the pollution. This information can be used in the future to make informed decisions for regulating and monitoring microplastics.

Read the full article to find out more about NIVA's studies and their experience working with the PerkinElmer Spectrum Two™ and Spotlight™ 400, FTIR Microscopy System.
